Pole Body & Arts FAQs

New to pole? Curious about classes, Open Gym, or what to expect?

We've answered the most common questions below in our Pole Body & Arts FAQs to help you feel confident, prepared, and excited to start.

Getting Started as a Beginner

Q: Do I need experience to start pole?

A: No experience is needed at all. Our Beginner Pole Dance Classes are designed specifically for first-timers.

Q: Am I strong enough to try pole?

A: Yes. You do not need strength before you start — you build strength through training. Everyone starts somewhere.

Q: What if I'm nervous?

A: That's completely normal. Most students arrive nervous and leave feeling proud they showed up. Our instructors are supportive, patient, and beginner-focused.

Q: What class should I book first?

A: We recommend starting with a Beginner Pole Dance Class which is called Intro to Pole. We have a sexy choreography option and a sport fitness option for Intro. Our drop in rate for the 1 hour class is $27.50.

What to Wear & Bring

Q: What should I wear to class?
  • Shorts or fitted bottoms (for grip on the pole)
  • Tank top, t-shirt, or sports bra
  • Barefoot or socks is perfect — no shoes required
Q: Can I wear leggings?

A: Leggings are great for fitness or stretch classes, but shorts are best for pole classes so you can grip the pole safely.

Q: Should I bring anything?

A: Just yourself and some water. Avoid lotion or oils on your skin before class.

Body Inclusivity & Safety

Q: Is there a weight limit for pole?

A: No. There is no weight limit on our poles. All bodies can pole safely, and we actively welcome students of all sizes.

Is Pole Body & Arts an LGBTQ+ friendly space?

A: Yes. We are proudly women-owned and queer-owned and committed to providing an affirming, respectful space for LGBTQ+ students.

Q: What if I need modifications?

A: Our instructors offer modifications and encourage students to move at their own pace. Listening to your body is always supported.

Class Levels & Scheduling

Q: How do class levels work?

A: Our beginner class is called Intro to Pole. That's the very first class you should take if you don't have any experience. Once you have taken Intro to Pole once or twice, you're ready to attend your first level class called Pole Essentials I. You will stay at that level until you're ready to test out to the next level.

Our levels in order: Intro to Pole, Pole Essentials I, Pole Essentials II, Pole Essentials III, Intermediate, Advanced

Q: What if I book the wrong level?

A: Everyone should start in the Intro to Pole beginner class. If you have prior pole experience, we can help place you in the correct level, give us a call or text.

Q: Do I need to pre-book classes?

A: Yes. Classes should be booked in advance through our online schedule.

Q: How do I know when to move up to the next level?

A: We have test out during the last week of every month. If you feel ready to test out, you will show your instructor the required moves and they will decide if you're able to move to the next level. The required moves are posted inside the studio on our performance charts. Most students stay in each level for a few months or more.
